ERV Systems: Enhancing Indoor Air Quality and Energy Efficiency

At Royalty Custom Homes, we prioritize both comfort and health in every home we build. One of the best ways to achieve this is through an Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) system—a smart solution for maintaining optimal indoor air quality while improving energy efficiency.

What is an ERV System?

An ERV system continuously exchanges stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air, while retaining heat in the winter or cool air in the summer. This process:

  • Improves indoor air quality

  • Helps control humidity levels

  • Reduces the load on your heating and cooling systems

  • Enhances overall energy efficiency

ERV systems are especially beneficial in well-insulated, energy-efficient homes, where natural ventilation may be limited. By integrating an ERV into your HVAC system, you can enjoy fresher, healthier air without sacrificing energy savings.

Installation Options

At Royalty Custom Homes, we offer several ERV installation options depending on your needs and preferences:

1. Rough-Ins Only

This option prepares your home for a future ERV installation:

  • Outlet wiring ran for future ERV unit

  • Intake and exhaust hoods installed for future connection

  • Flex venting run to the Mechanical Room

2. Full ERV Package

Our full installation package includes everything needed to get your ERV system up and running:

  • Outlet wiring for ERV installation

  • Intake and exhaust hoods installed and connected to the ERV unit

  • Flex venting run to the ERV unit in the Mechanical Room

  • ERV unit fully installed and operational

3. No ERV

If you prefer, you can forgo all ERV wiring and installation during construction. This leaves the option open for a future installation but provides no ERV functionality initially.

Why Plan for an ERV System

Even if you don’t install the full system right away, including rough-ins during construction is a smart, cost-effective choice. Pre-installed wiring and venting ensure:

  • Seamless future installation without cutting into finished walls

  • Proper placement for maximum efficiency

  • Flexibility to choose the ERV system that fits your preferences later
